Video: How To Make Pan Seared Salmon

Looking for socially distant date ideas?

We’ve been adding new ones to the app every week, and this time we’re suggesting cooking together. But rather than just sharing a recipe and wishing you luck, we teamed up with @kitchenmesshk to walk you through an ideal dinner date recipe.

Try it out over zoom, over facetime, or if you’re watching this in the future then have a go in person (and remember how lucky you are to be outside).

INGREDIENTS:

* 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin

* 1/2 teaspoon of ground paprika

* pinch of salt and freshly cracked black pepper

* 1/2 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil

* 1/2 cucumber

* 1/4 red onion

* few sprigs of fresh parsley

* 2 tablespoons of pomegranate arils

* Juice of half a lime

* 2 salmon fillets (~150g each)

METHOD:

1. Wash and pat dry salmon with some kitchen towels.

2. Make the spice rub by simply combining the first 4 ingredients in a small bowl and mixing together. Generously coat the salmon fillets all over with this rub and let it sit for 10 minutes (if you have time) or a minute or two if you don't.

3. Coat a non-stick or cast iron frying pan with some oil and heat it up on medium-high. Once you see some smoke from the pan, lay the salmon skin-side down and depending on the thickness of the salmon, let it cook for 5-8 minutes. In the last minute or two, flip the salmon skin-side up and reduce the heat to low and let the salmon cook thoroughly.

4. Make the salsa. As the salmon is cooking, prepare the salsa by dicing the cucumber, red onions and parsley. Toss together along with the pomegranate arils, lime juice, olive oil, freshly ground black pepper and pinch of sea salt.

5. Plating. Once salmon is done, transfer to a plate and let it rest for 2-3 minutes. Dress the salmon with the pomegranate salsa and if desired, add an extra dollop of extra virgin olive oil on top before serving.
