EAT, PRAY, CORONA:
The following was written by Inner Circle’s Amsterdam ambassador Carla. You may recognize her from our events in the city, here’s what she had to share when we asked her how COVID-19 has changed the dating scene in the city:
Are you done forwarding all your Tiger King memes? Are you all caught up with Insta-stories? Did you Marie Kondo your place?
While the streets of Amsterdam are deserted, and our famous “coffee shops” are making record sales, Inner Circle app is peaking with traffic compared to a pre-Corona day.
Sure, sexting sounds fun and talking about Covid seems to be the only thing we are thinking and talking about but we are all craving a momentary distraction from this nightmare. The other day I decided to check in with my friend and see how he was handling this bizarre situation we are all in. He hurriedly rushed me off the phone because he was in the middle of question #17. He was getting to know his new IC match through 36 questions.
The 36 questions my friend was talking about comes from Mandy Len Catron’s Modern Love essay, “To fall in love with anyone, do this”. It is said that almost any two persons can fall in love as long as they are having the right conversation. The questions are broken down into sets. Here’s an example:
“If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be?”
Hmmm for me it would be hands down flying. I mean, talk about social distancing? You have the whole space for yourself except for maybe the odd bird here and there.
Another essential question I found: ‘How do you feel about your relationship with your mother?”
Now this is a really good one. The experienced lover will tell you that if one does not have a good relationship with their mother, it’s best to walk away. This is a telltale sign of how they will treat you. Google it.
So pause the dirty texting, get creative, pour your respective glasses of wine or two or three and start questioning. Hey what have you got to lose? It’s not like you haven’t got the time.
